What are flanges?

Flanges are metal rings used to connect pipes, valves, pumps and other components in piping systems. Their primary purpose is to provide a solid, secure and, if necessary, disassemblable connection between two parts.
Slobrides is a supplier and importer of carbon steel flanges conforming to European and international standards such as EN 1092-1, ANSI/ASME B16.5 and DIN.
How do flanges work?
The flanges are usually screwed in place, with a gasket between them to prevent leakage of liquids or gases. Such a connection is:
- mechanically strong
- tight and secure
- disassembled when necessary (e.g. for maintenance or replacement)
Types of flanges
SV ponudbi podjetja Slobrides so na voljo različne vrste prirobnic z natančno določenimi tehničnimi specifikacijami, med drugim:
- straight flanges
- throat flanges ( i.e. Welding Neck flange )
- threaded flanges
- Blind flanges (for closing the ends of pipes)
- leteče prirobnice ( t.i. Lap Joint / Libera prirobnica)
- socket flanges (so called Socket Welding flange)
Each type has its own function and is used according to the system requirements, pressure, medium and installation method.
Examples of use
Flat flange: for screw connection, suitable for medium and low pressures
Welding Neck Flange: welding to a pipe suitable for high pressures and temperatures
Threaded flange: connection without welding, for gas and temporary systems
Blind flange: pipe end closure, safety stop
Flying flange ( Lap Joint / Libera ) : greater flexibility, for corrosion-sensitive materials
Socket flange ( Socket Welding ): the hose is inserted and welded, for smaller diameters and medium pressures
Conclusion
So flanges are not just metal rings - they are key technical elements that connect pipes, valves and devices in industry. Their job is simple but essential: to ensure a safe, tight and reliable joint.
At Slobrides, we make sure every day that the flanges are precisely selected, technically suitable and ready for use. This is done by experts who know the materials, standards and user requirements.
When you choose a flange, you don't just choose a product - you choose a solution that has to work. And we make it work.
